Exciting News!
I am so excited to announce to the world that I am officially beginning my training to become a Certified Birth Doula, Certified Postpartum Doula, and Certified Lactation Support and Educator!
Anyone who knows me personally knows I am OBSESSED with birth! Like, if you are friends with me and have had a baby in the last 3 years, I know your birth story by heart. I have done so much research on birth, through childbirth classes, books, and google, that it has become as much of an obsession as it is a passion.
Well, braniac that I am, I decided that if I really wanted to learn about birth what better way to do it than go all in and complete a rigorous training program through an internationally board certified program, Maternitywise International, so that I was sure that I would receive the highest quality of information as possible. It also means that once I get my business off the ground I can accept insurance (did you know doulas are likely going to be covered by Medicaid in October in Utah?).
As part of my certification I will need to complete over 25 hours of workshop videos, read (and write book reports) on 9 books, complete a 4-8 hour childbirth education program, write 5 papers, read their “textbooks” (429 pages worth of manuals), and care for 9 families (three in each category), take 3 final exams, and of course complete smaller assignments along the way.
To say I am overwhelmed is an understatement!
But as crazy as this all feels, I am overcome with so much excitement and joy that I am putting in the effort to ensure that I have the best knowledge and skills to help other mamas on their journey in motherhood. Stay tuned as I begin to interact more over the next few months, sharing my new knowledge with you guys!
